Technology
EPI has developed and has a patent pending on a process to manufacture light
weight aggregate (rock) made with a very high percentage of waste ash from
coal fired electricity plants. This process will utilize a portion of the 70
million tons of waste coal ash now land filled in the US to manufacture an
aggregate that competes in the existing 5.7 million tons lightweight aggregate
market.
The lightweight rock developed by EPI Aggregate, RenuAgg™, contains a
very high percentage of waste ash from coal fired plants and competes in the
aggregate market with expanded shale, a product manufactured from mined clay
heated to over 2,200 degrees in a kiln that requires 1.34 million BTU’s of
energy for every cubic yard of aggregate produced.
